For this assignment I chose to use the commercial where apple introduced Macintosh in to the world of computers. In the commercial it starts out with people who are dressed in grey clothes marching like Jews marching to the death camps. There is no individuality they are all the same like robots, and then it shows guards chasing a woman dressed in orange track shorts and a white top carrying a sledge hammer. The woman is running down the hall, and then it flashes to the men who all look the same sitting in a room with a large screen with a dictator that some what resembles Hitler. In the commercial the dictator on the screen is preaching about how they would dominate the world (as in computers) and how they will take them in there own confusion. As the guards are still chasing the woman down the hall she burst out in to the room where the dictator is still lecturing on about how the world is dominated by them and that will never change.
I see that the author of the commercial is implying that the men in gray are the PCs of the world. The author implies that they are like the Jews marching to there death or even the followers of Hitler who listened mindlessly to him and obeyed. The woman represents a new idea or a new way of looking at life. Here the woman represents how shocking the release of the new computer is when she threw the sledge hammer in to the screen the dictator is being broadcasted. She is trying to break down the walls of all of the standards we come to expect. Back in 1984 we only had the world of the PC and when apple introduced Macintosh it opened new door and eyes to all who used computers. Apple fights back against the domination of the computer world (monopoly). The unspoken and hidden meanings behind this commercial made me think about the world differently.
