A Sample Analysis by Mary (brief)

While analyzing this commercial I noticed how pepsi-max is not only advertising a product, but also fueling the cycle of consumerism by portraying mostly people at work. By focusing on workers this commercial reinforces values of industrialism prevalent in the united states, supporting the idea that we should strive to be hard workers despite fatigue or illness. It reveals how we place our identity in our jobs which in turn bolsters the economy, making rich people richer....

  1. There seems to be present an idea that being energized is important, valued in our lives and that we don't have time for being fatigued or tired. We also notice that the ad hopes the viewer will surrender to these very exhaggerated, extreme perspectives and behaviors and that it doesn't leave room for a middle ground. Does this suggest that our culture is inclined toward extremes, that we work ourselves to the state of exhaustion and must medicate this exhaustion with energizing substances. Now I'm wondering if this is not an accurate potrayal of Western culture work ethic?
