Summary of "Clive Thompson on the New Literacy"
In his article “Clive Thompson on the New Literacy,” Clive Thomson claims young people today are writing to audiences and they know the importance such awareness. One implication of Thompson’s treatment of today student is that they considered incompetence they ability to write because of technology. At the same time that I believe writing is just not one voice or the coming from one person; I also believe writing is more discussion while online. For example, if I chat using a computer with my friend, I do not feel like it is writing. This is because your audience is someone you know them very well. Thompson explained, “The first thing she found is that young people today write far more than any generation before them”(1). When students use texting, they are not tending to write academic styles. There is no change I there academic writing even though using other styles most of time. My own view is that many people do not enjoy academic writing. Thought I conclude that they do not have lack ability, I still maintain that they need to practice academic writing. For example, there is more familiar they are easier they could enjoy it. Although some might object that the other form is distracting. I reply that it is still writing. The issue is important because people usually tend to write something no academic styles.
