Levi's commercial

In the Levi's- America (Go Forth) commercial, you can obviously tell by the title it is promoting america.. It starts with an emblazoned sign half submerged underwater, again saying "America", with the sounds of trumpets playing softly in the background, sounding more like a military group than any other genre. There are fireworks going off in the sky, contrasting highly because it is filmed in black and white. The military sounding trumpets and the fireworks automatically makes me think of the Fourth of July, celebrating our freedom and independence, while in jeans. It then becomes narrated with "America, center for equal daughters, equal sons.." a classic poem by a most famous american author, Walt Whitman. The title of the poem "America" only adds the patriotic theme going on through out the commercial. As the poem keeps being read, images of people of all races and statures come upon the screen. Showing the diversity that the country has to offer, and also allowing almost every person to be able to relate to it somehow. After that occurs, a telephone pole and an American flag are shown at the same time. Tricky as they are, they are able to shoot this flying flag at the correct angle that the telephone pole looks like a cross, also drawing our roots of what this country was built upon. Bringing not only the young or somewhat more liberal people into liking the commercial, but also the more traditional. As more images flash up, the text of the poem is flashed upon the screen "Perrenial with the earth, with freedom, with law and love" chasing the American dream, but in different words. Then they are running near the fireworks on the beach, each shot graphic, and artsy. And with the last couple of seconds, the sign "America" from the begining shows up again, a firework explodes, then it goes black. Then the same youth/ young adults are running holding a banner saying "Go Forth", and Levi's pops up over it. The only part of the commercial is the iconic Levi's symbol.
The commercial draws from the poem saying "Young or old, strong, ample, fair", and then flashing a person who exhibits those traits, someone just like you or me, essentially making us America, just like the poem. It is extremely interesting to watch these commercials looking for the hidden meaning in the 61 seconds it shows, because each word and image is so strategically placed, that more than those 61 seconds would be too much. So go forth, and buy some Levi's America.
