Group Seven "The Owl Has Flown" essay stuff

In his essay, Birkerts suggests that we need to take things seriously to appreciate the depth of things. Just because things are hard sometimes doesn't mean you should take the "easy" route. He's saying to not just skim the surface. By surface, meaning the "horizontal" line that Birkerts speaks of. Birkerts claims to some degree that he thinks that we're becoming lazy, and that we have so much available to us that we don't have to try as hard to get information we may need. Although Birkerts does not say so directly, he may feel that people can find that by reading more "deeply", it can still be enjoyable and more fulfilling than by just getting what you need out of different texts.
