Narrative #1 Section (Cynthia Selfe)

Cynthia L. Selfe, the author of “Lest We Think the Revolution is a Revolution”, explains how technology creates a global village free of prejudice yet it will create equality. Our individuality will be forever gone. We limit ourselves to technological changes only within our historical culture rather than our society’s outlook on technology as a whole. Selfe explains in the fourth paragraph that we view ourselves as a whole, we think ourselves as “superior” technologically speaking. We as a society are trying to let technology help the world help but it is simply sectioning the world into Electronic colonies. All the images are showing exotic places available to Americans as new global markets. Technology can’t fix the world, it can only further our own technological lead on the world.

“Technology, in these ads, is an American tool.” (Selfe 301)
