Christina

Hi. My name is Christina LoPiano. I am enrolled in Anna Wolff's English 100 class. I was a Whatcom drop-out the fall quarter after I graduated high school. My parents had high expectations for me to follow my older siblings preceding me, which was why I enrolled in Whatcom in the first place, which also ended up only lasting a few months. I spent the next few years doing various things, in which I believe I gained a lot of knowledge (some useless, but nonetheless interesting), and life experience. Currently I am working on a transfer degree to Western to enter the Early Childhood Education program, and I work for a wonderful nonprofit organization.

The kinds of writing I most frequently do include email, school work (essays, responses, write ups, etc.), and texting, which I never really considered a form of writing until I read the Clive Thompson essay.

The most frequent writing I do is email for my job. I communicate with a lot of people through email, so it has to be neat, friendly, to the point, and spell checked! Spell check saves my life. I use email often--it is the first thing to be opened when I get to work and it is the main source of communication between the majority of people I work with. My purpose for this type of writing is for my job, of course, but I have multiple audiences. It is important to meet each one of those audiences in an appropriate way.
