Team Awesome!! In-class response

Our group thought that these are the two most convincing claims made by Mr. Carr in our section.

The first claim is:“Maybe I’m just a worrywart. Just as there’s a tendency to glorify technological progress, there’s a countertendency to expect the worst of every new tool or machine.” This quote seems to be the main idea of our section, but not just our section but the topic of the whole article. The evidence supporting this claim was quotes from Plato’s Phaedrus, and also a topic we have covered in class at depth as well.

The author makes reference to our interconnection to reading and thought and how reading text is changing that experience. The second quote “The kind of deep reading that a sequence of printed pages promotes is valuable not just for the knowledge we acquire from the author’s words but for the intellectual vibrations those words set off within our own minds” is the base line for the dialogue about our interrelationship to reading and how it is changing.
