Summary of The Owl Has Flown

In the essay, "The Owl Has Flown", Birkert goes into detail about how our society is given all of this information and we dont use it to the full ponential. He comes to the concept of horizational meaning gaining mass knowledge and vertical meaning explict reading / understanding. Since we have so much acess to this mass knowledge we tend to take advantage of it. Due to the expansion of information we have changed our thought process. I have to say that i am most definetly guilty of taking advangted of reading and writing. Birkirt talked about when people would read in groups outloud to each other to absorb the information. Today it's done in private in our homes, libraries, and schools. I think that we should defienly think we should appreciate the knowlege we take in and really retain it.
