Patric

My name is Patric and I live in Birch Bay. This is my second quarter at Whatcom. I have returned to college after dropping out 27 years ago to work as an electrician, supporting my family when my son was born. I always expected to earn a degree “someday” but life has a way of happening day by day until you realize “someday” has been happening all along.
I had a double total knee replacement in 2008 and I am unable to continue working as an electrician. I plan to get a transfer degree and attend UW to get an electrical engineering degree. When I dropped out in 1983 I had one quarter left to complete my chemical technology degree at Seattle Central Community College. I would have to start over to be competitive in completing the program.
I write political and social commentary to a select audience in e-mails. I have written poetry since I was 10 years old. I text on a daily basis, most often it’s a quick note to family. I keep a journal of philosophical, relationship, emotional, and spiritual thoughts and essays, poetry, and short stories. I am currently doing background research for a novel I intend to write. I have written the basic story line and will begin writing the chapters as research fills in historically accurate details.
Writing is a necessary part of my being. I write poetry to bring depth and texture to an inner feeling. I write commentary to give explanation of political and social issues. I keep a journal to give me clarity of purpose and understanding of myself. I still don’t know where the idea for the novel originated, I just started writing one day with no direction, goal, or particular inspiration. When I stopped to read what developed I liked what I was reading and sent it to 4 people for critical review. The common response was, “where did you find this story!?” I could only reply, “it was hiding in my keyboard”. I decided to write the rest of the story “someday”. I hope it doesn’t take me 27 years.
