"The Owl Has Flown" Paragraph 12-14

Sven Birkerts, the author of an essay titled "The Owl Has Flown", gives us an opportunity for us, as a society, to open our minds and dive deeper into our reading rather than swimming across the surface. Birkerts claims that society has truly lost meaning into what we read. Birkerts calls this "horizontal engagement" which also means to extensively read part of the information rather than having a "vertical engagement", which is to recieve more in depth information when reading. Birkerts states; "Wisdom is a seeing through facts, a penetration to the underlying laws and patterns." I believe that we can all take this quote and put into action by having wisdom, you will be able to comprehend the information given to you in the text as a collection. Birkerts also states; "The computer, our high-speed, accessing, storing, and sorting tool, appears as a godsend." What Birkerts is saying by this is that if we ever have a topic that needs to be looked into, we simply turn towards our technology to receive the information now rather than taking the time to read the text and get the full details on your own.
