Birkerts Group Work Summary

In Sven Birkerts essay "The Owl Has Flown" he expresses how we use the Therapists office to reach a very deep level of concentration. He then states how we find this a parenthetic enclosure and we feel more secure talking in this atmosphere. His major point he is trying to get across is that our wise people stay out of these quote on quote "spotlights" due to how we have become these skimmers and don't go into a lot of depth over the text we read. He suggests that by doing this few people are willing to expose themselves in front of others and become vulnerable in a group of people. By sustaining this pattern we are becoming less and less confident in the readings we read and find it hard to in a way debate this since we do not have a very true deep understanding of the text and we then feel insecure to possibly present this information. He suggests that there is no real place for people available who profess the vertical awareness.
